About Me

Kia ora, I'm Gill

Many people in New Plymouth know me from my years as the owner of Curves New Plymouth.

I opened Curves because I am passionate about helping women remain strong, fit, able, and independent as they move through life's different stages. I believed then, as I do now, that good health isn't about striving for perfection—it's about having the energy, strength, and confidence to live the life you want to live.

For 15 years, I had the privilege of supporting hundreds of women on their health and wellbeing journeys. What I loved most wasn't the exercise itself. It was seeing people grow in confidence, discover what they were capable of, and make changes that improved their lives.

Those years taught me that lasting change doesn't come from quick fixes or willpower alone. It comes from small, consistent steps, self-compassion, and having the right support along the way.

Through my work as a Community Educator with Alzheimer's Taranaki, I've had the privilege of supporting many people affected by dementia and helping families better understand the journey they are on.

Why I do this work

Over the years I've seen that life can be both wonderful and challenging.

Professionally, I've worked alongside people navigating health concerns, ageing, caregiving, and major life changes. Personally, I've supported both of my parents and my brother through difficult health journeys, including supporting my mum through dementia.

My mum taught me that love is the most important thing and believed that people can find the solutions to their own problems when they are listened to, encouraged, and supported. My brother's philosophy was simple: "While you've got life, you've gotta live it."

Those lessons continue to shape both my life and my work. They remind me to value connection, make the most of life, and trust in people's ability to find their own way forward.

None of us are meant to do life alone. Sometimes we all need support, encouragement, practical tools, and someone to walk alongside us for a while.

That's what I aim to provide through my coaching.

What you can expect from me

My approach is warm, practical, and realistic.

I don't believe in fads, perfection, or quick fixes.

I believe in listening carefully, understanding your unique circumstances, and helping you find solutions that work in real life.

Whether you're looking to improve your health, increase your energy, develop healthier habits, or find support as a dementia carer, we'll work together to create meaningful and sustainable change.

A Few Things About Me

When I'm not coaching, you'll usually find me outdoors.

I love tramping and exploring New Zealand's beautiful landscapes. Being in nature helps me slow down, clear my mind, and reconnect with what matters most.

I enjoy swimming in rivers, lakes, and the sea, and I'm happiest when I can combine fresh air, movement, and good company.

At home, I'm learning the art of growing vegetables, herbs, and flowers. Gardening constantly reminds me that growth takes time, patience, and care—much like lasting changes in health and wellbeing.

I've been with my partner for almost 30 years, and we have two wonderful adult children. Family, connection, and community are deeply important to me.

A few things I believe:
• Small steps really do add up.
• Kindness matters.
• Health is about more than numbers on a scale.
• It's never too late to make positive changes.
• Nobody should have to face life's challenges alone.

I believe health is about more than avoiding illness—it's about having the energy, strength, and confidence to enjoy life and the people around us.
